Movies and Presentations
Welcome to the first year of the Magic Lantern Festival LECTURE SERIES, featuring two prominent movie
makers from upstate New York.

Saturday, May 10:
Art Mission & Theater: Patrick Johnson; Johnny Robinson
"The Heart of Tango," by Johnny Robinson
"The Heart of Tango" was directed and produced by Johnny Robinson, a professor of animation at Rochester Institute of Technology.
The film examines what defines Argentine Tango dancing, and stars world-class dancers Colette Herbert and Richard Council.
Johnny Robinson's early film career began in 1972 in San Francisco with actor/director Curtis Imrie.
Johnny worked on low budget dramatic feature films as well as documentaries on Western outdoor themes.
Starting in 1976, Johnny turned to graphic design and illustration. He entered Syracuse University in 1984 where he received
his BA with Honors in illustration, and an MFA, also in illustration. In 1991, Johnny started commercial animation with
producer Bruce MacCurdy in Syracuse, New York. This led to work in a local animation studio; Animotion.
Johnny began teaching animation at Rochester Institute of Technology in 1999 and served as Animation Department
Chair from 2000 to 2003. www.johnnyrobinson.com
"Blood of the Hog," Patrick Johnson, producer and editor
Patrick Johnson is a film and video producer/editor who has worked on a number of feature films, music videos, and commercials.
Most recently he produced and edited "Blood of the Hog" in Binghamton, New York. In Los Angeles, he produced/edited the
independent horror film "Blackwater Farm" and "The Wayfarers" (Best Film at the 2006 SNOB Film Festival). Additionally,
he has served as editor of independent horror film "Comedy Hell" starring Eric Roberts and Victoria Platt and documentary
"The Treasures of Long Gone John" which premiered at the 2006 SXSW Film Festival. Patrick currently teaches at Broome Community
College and produces television commercials for WBNG-12.
